Manx Airlines at Ronaldsway, note liveryManx Airlines Final Flights

It was a sad day on Wednesday 13th February 2002, when it was announced that Manx Airlines would be ceasing their flights to London Heathrow. Flights were being cut and that some 60 staff would be made redundant due to BA’s "future size and shape" review. The main outcry from the general public was the fact that the Manx Airlines' three legs livery would be changed to BACX and another piece of Manx aviation will be consigned to the history books.

Saturday 31th August 2002 was the final day of Manx Airlines before BA's CitiExpress service took over on 1st September. To commemorate the event MAPS decided to keep the museum open so we could all witness this sad event.

It was very well attended by members and the general public with a brisk trade being carried out in Post Office first day covers of the last flight. Outside as the light faded the crowd scanned the skies for the telltale landing lights, but true to form Manx Airlines caused some confusion right to the end over which flight would be the last in. A sad day for Manx aviation but an extremy busy one for the Museum, what's that about clouds and silver linings....?

A large display of Manx Airlines memorabilia is situated in the reception area of the Museum, along with mementoes for sale, so don't miss out on this!
