The main objective of the Manx Aviation Preservation Society, or MAPS as it known to members, is to heighten public awareness of the aviation and military heritage of the Isle of Man, with particular reference to the significant role the Island played during World War II and beyond.

One of the main ways to achieve this objective was in the establishment a permanent museum to display accumulated materials and archives etc., collected by the members of the Society and donated by the public.

The museum is dedicated to the memory of all those who served in a military capacity on the Island, and in particular to those who lost their lives in air accidents in and around the Isle of Man.

The interests of the Society extend beyond a pure aviation theme, with such other areas as the Royal Navy, Military training carried out on the Island, Manx Military Units raised on the Island, the Manx Home Guard, Radar Sites, Alien Internment Camps, and the "Home Front" featuring in our investigations. However this is not a definitive list, as the Society is continually finding new areas of interest to explore, which is often expanded by a new member joining.

The Society attends airshows and various fetes in the summer months displaying aviation memorabilia, militaria including vehicles and living history.

MAPS was formed in May 1994, by a group of individuals who decided to pool their resources in respect of their common interests in aviation and military history.

The Society is open to all who are genuinely interested in supporting or helping its work.
