The Museum has had an extremely busy Summer in 2001 despite the loss of events like the T.T. and M.G.P., and visitor figures and receipts were very encouraging. Some of the displays were changed and are now featuring newly acquired and loaned material, such as Gulf War items, Burma Star material and a variety of RAF items. One item acquired a bit closer to home is a complete Barracuda seat, dug out by a couple of intrepid members at a site on Ronaldsway Airfield. If all this is news to you then you really do need to get yourself down to the Museum more often. During the first year of operation the museum has attracted nearly 2,000 visitors and there is a surprise for the 2,000th visitor. Forty members of the Isle of Man Family History Society visited one Summer Day, and there have also been visits by the First Malew and First Rushen Scouts. If any groups or organisations would like to visit then please ring the Museum on 829294. The Nissen hut is moving along, although at a slower pace than we anticipated. Its planning application was originally turned down but the Planners overturned their initial refusal and Steve Poole has now started work on its construction. Members have been making provision for the supply of electricity, water and telephone to the new building, tidying up and preparing the concrete base. On a general note, additional help is always required at the museum, be it manning the Museum for a couple of hours at the weekend (not as daunting as it seems and always very enjoyable), a spot of gardening or tidying up the external areas or helping with the Nissen Hut project. So come on get in touch and get involved, we really are a very friendly bunch. Click on the buttons below to go to the relevant pages.
