North Barrule

Home Up Ballaragh Eagle Squadron North Barrule

The second memorial which the Society has been instrumental in, in association with Maughold Commissioners, was the erection of a plaque on North Barrule in memory of 31 American servicemen who died in a crash on their way to Northern Ireland for a period of rest, when their B17G went straight into the east side of North Barrule on the 23rd April, 1945. This, the worst air accident on the Island, happened only two weeks before the end of the war.

The articles which tell the sad story of events are taken with permission from the author, Steve Poole, from his excellent book "Rough Landing or Fatal Flight".
