September News - Museum Opening Date Fixed
The Society's committee is pleased to announce that the museum
will finally open on Saturday the 11th November at 11:00am, by Tony Brown
MHK
Transport Minister. Proceedings will
actually start at 10:30am. We are hoping for a staggered opening, firstly for
members and guests, secondly for sponsors later on in the day, and finally for
members of the general public. Further information will be posted on this site
when it is available.
Other news to report on the museum this month:-
 | The display cases are mostly complete and painted. When
they are finished a big clean up will be required before items for display can be
brought down to the museum. |
 | The airport authorities have improved the fence around the
site with a plastic coated mesh. |
 | Work on improving the car park inside the site has begun by
clearing away rubbish, plants, weeds, broken tarmac and old cement etc., and
replacing them with new cement work. |
 | There are still some railings to paint and fix to the car
park. |
 | At the committee meeting at the start of October members
were asked to list items of their collections and decide what they would
like to put on display. It was decided that there is so much to display that
there will have to be a rotation system devised. The first items to be
displayed must have a Manx connection/story. Landmark events, for example
the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, will be commemorated via
displays at the appropriate times. |
